Good game from Italy but there's a lot of room for improvement. Di Lorenzo might as well be the best right-back in the world at the moment. Locatelli and Berardi looking extremely promising as well. Insigne is slowing down a lot of our plays though

Insigne is slowing down a lot of our plays though I'd rather use Chiesa on that left hand side. Insigne had a great goal but the game was no longer in doubt.

That back 5 is something else. The spirit. The way they celebrated Chiellini's tackle late in the game at 3-0 up was amazing.
Unreal stats. 29 unbeaten and not conceded in the last 9.

I laugh when people call Serie A, a farmers league. We aren't going to lose a game the whole tournament. Hopefully we run into England down the line.

Farmers league uh? Serie A has a very complex ecosystem of its own and I doubt people abroad can understand it unless they follow it religiously. It was the single greatest football league in the world throughout the 80s and 90s. People like Maradona would leave the richest, best team in Spain (Barça) to play for a middle-of-the-road team in southern Italy (Napoli). Basically, if you didn't play in Serie A back then, you were nobody. Just look at the past winners of the Ballon d'Or during the 80s and 90s and see how many played in Italy (like, 80%?). Of course times have changed and money has shaped a different landscape. With multibillionairs buying out British teams and banks loaning billions of euros to the two Spanish giants, it's been hard for our teams to stay relevant on an international level. But within the league itself, competition is still fierce. Juventus won 9 years in a row, but they had to go through the hoops in order to do so. And they only managed to do it because they had arguably the two best managers in the world...Conte and Allegri. There are teams like Sassuolo or Atalanta whose entire squad costs less than Harry Kane or Pogba, yet I invite most European teams to play against them and get their arse kicked.
Now with Allegri back with Juve, Mourinho at Roma and Sarri at Lazio, the level is going to improve even more.

Serie A though is a great league and as you say, has been since the 80s. That's when (early 90s) it really came on to the radar of most English fans (liverpool fans excepted) with Channel 4's Serie A coverage. As an 18 year old seeing James Richardson sitting at Roma or Napoli or Florence pavement cafés sipping espresso, reading Gazzetta Dello Sport and talking about the football seemed like the coolest thing in the world. But Italy and football had become super cool with the 1990 world cup. For me, the greatest ever. I'd just turned 16 and it was the first world cup I watched drinking with my mates. It was Gazza and Lineker and THAT semi final against Germany. Also, football became kind of trendy from then on. Some of the football fashion around then was ace. The No Alla Violenza t-shirts and the old school trainers that everyone was wearing. I remember (i've still got one of them) Face magazine and ID doing football specials. This 'cool' new TCOTU model called Kate Moss, as a 16 yr old, was on one of the covers. TCOTU was a fucking cool place to be aa a 16 yr old in 1990.

didn't see erikssen go down. was he caught beforehand? He just sort of starts stumbling forward and hits the floor. From the few glimpses you got of him before medics got on and players tried to shield him, he looked absolutely just gone.

UEFA should be ashamed of themselves for continuing to zoom in on him as he convulsed, the same is true for ESPN, BBC, RAI, and RTE.
