I've been on a major Hazlewood kick lately. Such a unique artist with so many classic songs yet unfortunately remains undiscovered by most.
I know there are a number of fans on here (Jp, David, The Dutch Connection & others) but I always feel like Hazlewood's work needs to be put onto more people.
Over the past few days I've been back through his entire back catalogue. His first about 5 records are all pretty strong if patchy but then he really got into his stride around 68-71 with classics like Love & Other Crimes, Nancy & Lee, Requiem for an Almost Lady & Cowboy In Sweden.
After these highs his career slowly but surely goes downhill record by record. It gets to the point where some of his late 70's output is atrocious. Easy listening covers & re-recordings of his previous work. Having said that there are some gems spread throughout these records.
I've made a 2CD best of which hopefully will work as great introduction to his work but also as a collection of his very best songs. He's had many best of's & various compilations of his work put out in the past but due to him being on many different record labels & the fact most of his records have been out of print for years means nobody has ever collected his best work in one place.
I'm turtleing it now so reply if you want a link
