I'm not just slagging it off for the sake of it, I really wanna like it tbh, but this is a bit shit. Half of it sounds like its been taken straight from Paul Weller records. From MOR ballads to directly nicking sounds off his recent experimental stuff. The Mexican is appalling. Lock All The Doors is a mess bar the great chorus we know he wrote 20 years ago.
The Ballad of the Mighty I is brilliant though.
6/10

This is indeed a top album. I thought his debut was good but a little one paced, but this is quality from start to finish. Feels wrong picking out favorites as they are all good songs but Riverman, The Girl With The X-Ray Eyes, Lock All The Doors and You Know We Can't Go Back are all 10/10

I listen to it and just think ''why have you wasted years and years having Sardy as your producer''

The Right Stuff is one of his greatest songs

It sounds like a mid-ranking SOTSOG b-side with updated production.

it still amazes me that people are unable to use the internet and find links for themselves

after several listens now here's my track by track review.... riverman when i first heard that shit live recording of this from tufnell park the other week i was quite excited for this tune. i still cant quite decide what i make of the finished article. there's something quite captivating about it that gets under my skin but ultimately its a bit duller than it could have been. the guitar solo and sax definitley improve things and the production ensures its better than a lot of tunes on his first album but i still think this is a tune that could have been pushed on further. a good song that could have been a great one. 7 in the heat of the moment really didnt like this on the first few listens but its grown on me with time. the overall song is alright but the nanananananas still fuck me off. probably should have been a bside. 6 the girl with the x ray eyes this is more like it. this has a nice rhythm to it and i like it lyrically. some quite interesting instrumentation going on too as far as noel songs go so thumbs up for this. 8 lock all the doors this would sound so fucking good with liam on vocals. nevertheless its still a top tune and exactly the kind of thing his debut was missing. noe does a good job on vocals and im looking forward to jumping around to this one live. 8.5 the dying of the light i can be a bit of a sucker for a noel ballad (i hate little by little dont worry, its not that bad) and had kinda fell in love with the demo of this. i was a bit concerned theyd overproduce this so was really pleased with how it ended up. this is a song i can imagine most people on here finding pretty dull but is one of my favourites noel has written in years. 9 the right stuff very impressed by this. as i said earlier in this thread it reminds me of something that could be on the newest charlatans album. i never thought id hear noel gallagher making a tune like this and for me it really works. the standout of the album. 9 while the song remains the same this tune continues a really good run of tracks. i like the vibes this gives off and lyrically i think its alright too. one of the best guitar solos on the album as well. 8 the mexican the best song title on the album also happens to be the worst tune. load of shit. 2 you know we cant go back what a song fucking huge. makes me think they should release this as a single and noel should grow a mullet and have a video where hes driving a convertible with his hair blowing in the wind. ive not yet listened to this song without putting my fist in the air. in all seriousness he sounds like hes having great fun on this tune and its really nice to hear. 8.5 ballad of the mighty i another one we've obviously had a while to get acquainted with. its definitley better than in the heat of the moment but still isnt one of the albums best moments. be interesting to see what they go with for the next single. 7 overall at this stage im really enjoying this album. truth me told, noel's last album if ever i heard any of the songs on their own i quite enjoyed them but as a whole piece it was just too mid paced and samey to fully enjoy. this album works much better for having a couple of rockers and the right stuff breaking things up so well in the middle. despite being a member of team liam any day of the week, this is the best oasis related album since the split. 8/10 despite that team beady eye are still in the lead as this is my overall ranking of post oasis albums... chasing yesterday different gear still speeding BE noel gallagher's high flying birds
